Ashill Land and McCarthy Stone has secured planning approval from Woking Borough Council Retirement Living PLUS (Extra Care) development for those aged over 70.
The scheme consists of 49 one- and two-bedroom extra care apartments in a range of tenure options set in landscaped gardens to create a retirement community.
The approved plans will also feature on-site communal facilities for residents, including a wellbeing suite, shared gardens, bistro and dining areas, supported by 24-hour flexible care and support on-site.
McCarthy Stone said the shared spaces provided will help to create a “ready-made, supportive and vibrant community for customers to access, whilst retaining their independence and involvement in the wider local area, as they choose”.
“We make this a priority within our developments, ensuring that a range of social activities, events, organised outings, and opportunities to make new friends are available to all our customers,” it added.
Construction of the Woking scheme is scheduled to kick off in the spring.
“We are delighted that, following an extensive consultation with local residents and stakeholders, members voted in line with the officer’s recommendation for the approval of our proposals for Woking,” said Mark Bryan, divisional managing director for McCarthy Stone London and South East.
“Since the submission of the proposals in July 2021, we have engaged closely with Officers to address the feedback received from residents, consultees and officers to develop a scheme that will see the holistic redevelopment of a vacant, brownfield site, that is sensitive to its surroundings, whilst providing increased housing choice for older people in the area,” he added.
