Skills for Care reflects on 2021 with highlights campaign

Skills for Care is reflecting on the past year with its2021 highlights campaign looking back at their key launches and activity through the year, as well as sharing good news stories from the sector during what has remained a challenging year for the

The campaign will take place across the organisation’s website, social media and other communications channels with blogs, articles, and infographics sharing insights and statistics on Skills for Care’s work through the year, an end of year message from their chief executive Oonagh Smyth, and a round-up of good news stories from providers across the sector.

Skills for Care will also be sharing information for providers on how to prepare for winter, touching on topics including safe staffing levels and the latest COVID-19 support and precautions.

Highlights from the year which Skills for Care will be spotlighting through the campaign include the release of their first ever Accolades magazine, the launch of their annual ‘State of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce in England report’, the success of the 'Moving up' programme to support leaders with a diverse background, the creation of numerous new guides to support student nurses and nursing associates within social care, and the development of a range of wellbeing resources to support the workforce during what has been a difficult year.

This year has also seen the launch of Skills for Care’s new four-year strategy which will continue to guide the organisation in its role of supporting the adult social care workforce to lead, deliver and grow.

Skills for Care also released 'The value of adult social care in England’ report  this year which showed adult social care contributes at least £50.3 billion to the economy in England and provides significant societal benefits. 

This year Skills for Care has continued to deliver more of its offer online to make sure that support continues to be accessible during these challenging times. 
 
In 2021, almost 1m visitors have accessed the Skills for Care website for information around best practice, tools, and guidance.   

Through the year, Skills for Care also ran over 330 virtual events attracting over 13,000 attendees. 

Taking some of the learning from the pandemic, in May 2021 Skills for Care worked with a range of supporting organisations to produce everyday technology learning modules to help social care staff support the people they care for use technology.

2021 also saw the completion of the first series of Skills for Care’s new podcast ‘The care exchange.’
