Farrans warms up for Passivhaus care home in Leighton Buzzard

Civil engineers Farrans has kicked off construction of a £13m Passivhaus care home in Leighton Buzzard for Central Bedfordshire Council.

The 63-bedroom Marigold House, which has been designed by Concertus Design & Property Consultants, will use a combination of sustainable design solutions, including air source heat pumps as the main heating source.

The home, due to open in autumn 2022, will also have a range of features including ensuite bedrooms, wider corridors, specialist bathing facilities, hairdresser and on-site catering.

Marigold House is the first in a number of older persons accommodation that will be built by Central Bedfordshire Council in the next few years to replace existing outdated homes.

“This is the first care home Central Bedfordshire Council have built and it is planned to be built to Passivhaus standards, making it a super energy efficient home with outstanding eco credentials.” Said Cllr. Eugene Ghent, executive member for housing & assets.

The name was chosen by the staff and residents of Westlands Care Home the residents of which, will have the opportunity to move to the new home when it is complete,” he added.
