We make no assumptions when designing for dementia. Individuals who live in our designed interiors deserve to take delight in the space they live in, as do all of us.
I find it curious that the vast majority of design for dementia seems to assume the end-user has lost control of their faculties, assuming they have lost their identity as adults.
