The benefits of installing ceiling track hoist systems

Contrary to popular belief, installing overhead rail systems with motorised hoists and sling attachments is straightforward in most care facilities, says Colin Williams, overhead hoist specialist for Etac R82

Overhead rail systems with motorised hoists and sling attachments enable wheelchair users in care facilities to be moved and handled safely. Operated by carers, they eliminate the need for manual lifting and lowering when moving individuals from room to room. However, many care providers believe the installation of rail systems is complex, costly and requires significant structural strengthening, hence potentially opting for less effective solutions.

Battery powered overhead hoist systems consist of mounting features, rails, lift motors and lifting belts and ancillary components, which all operate with appropriate slings. They deliver efficient and safe methods of lifting disabled people, thereby avoiding musculoskeletal injury and reducing the risk of slips and falls.

The prevention of back injuries in care staff is a major priority, which is enhanced by the need for single handed care. Hoists featuring intuitive controls and ergonomic design facilitate greater engagement with patients and the overall experience for service users is more reassuring and dignified. In addition, once installed, ceiling track hoists provide a significant return on investment (ROI) as care quality and efficiency is improved while transfer times are reduced. This in turn results in the better management of resources and less pressure on  staff.
