Dementia therapy service launched

On 22 November at 2.30pm, Jackie Pool, director of memory care at Sunrise of Eastbourne care home, will be launching an exciting cognitive rehabilitation and therapy service for residents.

As part of the Sunrise commitment to enriched memory care, the care home has recruited an occupational therapist and therapy assistant to deliver these therapies to residents living with dementia.

Everyone is invited to the launch to find out more about this important and ground breaking 12 month trial, and Pool and Sunrise therapists will be on hand to talk about this venture, introduce themselves and answer any questions.

The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Gill Mattock, will also be in attendance.

Pool will also be launching her innovative new book inspired by her 40 years of work tackling dementia. As a leading occupational therapist specialising in dementia care, Jackie has long made the case for ‘rementia’ – the possibility of reversing the symptoms of the condition and restoring lost functions. Having started her journey as an occupational therapy assistant in the 1980s, Pool has devoted her career to dementia care and researching how individuals can be supported to maintain their current abilities for longer.

The book, 'Reducing the Symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementias: A guide to personal cognitive rehabilitation techniques’ will present practical guidance for people affected by memory loss, their families and carers on reducing the symptoms of these conditions. Covering topics such as nutrition, stress, communication, memory and sleep, she will show how therapeutic cognitive rehabilitation techniques can be used to ultimately improve quality of life.
