Pendine Park Care Homes has revealed plans for a 70-bed dementia care facility in Wrexham.
Based on its award-winning Bryn Seiont Newydd care home in Caernarfon, Pen-y-Don will be split into small units for between eight and ten people.
Pendine Park is aiming to improve on Bryn Seiont Newydd, which opened in 2015 and won the following year’s Pinders healthcare design award for best new UK care home.
“One of the key elements of this design is small group living but with the advantage of a larger care setting and in particular that the home can be run as two separate floors, in small family units but with the ability to enable residents freedom, choice and the dignity of large areas of private space,” said Pendine Park director Mario Kreft.
Plans lodged with Wrexham County Borough Council show the care home will also be fitted with a heat exchange system and mechanical ventilation to purify the air to minimise virus transmission risk.
“Research has shown that natural light, ventilation and air conditioning are very important positive factors as is the importance of space and a variety of different settings to provide fulfilling opportunities amongst many others,” said Kreft.
Pendine Park Care homes said Pen-y-Don is slated to be open in 2023.
The care provider is also proposing to build an eco-friendly arts and wellbeing pavilion in its 12-acre grounds on the outskirts of Wrexham.
